Modern homes, or the items in them, are often the source of a wide variety of health issues, which makes this book an essential one to have in the home of every concerned householder. Clinical nutritionist Chace (365 Skinny Smoothies), who also hosts NPR's "Nutrition Matters" segment, has written a thoroughly researched and practical guide to identifying and eliminating common household toxins. Written in approachable language and illustrated in detail, chapters are organized by rooms, which facilitate quick lookups. The book also includes a dizzying array of resources: lists of common toxins, a glossary of common abbreviations found in packaging, recipes for nontoxic cleaning solutions, recommendations for nontoxic cleaning tools and methods, case studies, and a wealth of additional resources at the end. VERDICT Committed environmentalists interested in upping their game and being better citizens of planet Earth will find this guide useful. Highly recommended for all libraries.--Marjorie Mann
